We have all been waiting for the iPhone 6 for a period of time that seems like forever. However, now that has been released, complaints have popped up throughout the Apple-loving world regarding the new phone’s apparent “bending.”
Social media networks, such as Twitter and Instagram, and the larger Internet scene use the hashtag “#bendgate” in response to Apple’s faulty product. By searching “bendgate” on Google Images, numerous different pictures show a substantially bent version of the iPhone 6. In becoming the center of several jokes on the web, many videos were posted on YouTube publicizing the idea that the device could be physically bent with bare hands. So… one might ask: is the iPhone 6 actually this bendable?
To test this question professionally, a recently published CBS News article describes the experiment that “Consumer Reports” ran to assess the true “bending” of the iPhone 6 and other assorted cell phones. A machine was used to apply weight to the middle of the phone, including the HTC One (M8), Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG G3, the iPhone 5, and both sizes of the iPhone 6. As it turns out, the iPhone 6 and the HTC One (M8) were prone to bending (both changing their original shapes once 70 pounds was applied). They concluded that even though the iPhone 6 does in fact bend much more easily in comparison to other phones, it is not as easy to misshape as one might think after watching the latest YouTube videos. No worries- you can still safely store it in your back pocket!
