Marvel’s Infinity War set to hit the big screen in the May of 2018

Marvel Studios has created a universe of characters over the years. This universe, called the MCU(Marvel Cinematic Universe), was started in 2008 with the release of Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr.  In Iron Man there was a post credit scene that teased the fans with the Avengers being brought together. Years later, the Avengers have been brought together in two movies, The Avengers (2012) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). And recently, they were torn apart in Captain America: Civil War (2016). Civil War was the movie that showed all the consequences of the Avengers actions. It pitted hero against hero over the Sokovia Accords. The Sokovia Accords stated that the governments of the world would get to tell the Avengers when they can intervene. Viewpoints on The Accords differed and the team split up due to the differing opinions. These large events took place in the MCU so far. The MCU is also made up of the television shows the produce: Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Agents of Shield. All of the characters in these shows, except for Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, and Maria Hill, have not appeared on the big screen but are very much apart of the MCU.

In the comic, Infinity War, Thanos, the main villain, stole the Infinity Stones from around the universe. He put them in the Infinity Gauntlet. The Infinity Gauntlet is necessary to holding the Infinity Stones. A man once tried to hold one, and it physically ripped him apart. Thanos stole the Infinity Stones so that he could wipe out life and impress Death. Death, in Marvel, is an actual character. While wearing the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos snapped his fingers and wiped out half of the life in the universe. The story revolves around the Avengers stopping him. The movies probably won’t do a direct adaptation, but they will take many elements from the comics.

There are many characters in the MCU. Even more appear before Infinity War. The main characters to appear so far are Iron Man (Tony Stark), Thor Odinson, Hulk (Bruce Banner), Vision, Falcon (Sam Wilson), War Machine (James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes), Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff), Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Captain America (Steve Rogers), the Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes), Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff), Star Lord (Peter Quill), Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, Black Panther (T’challa), Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Doctor Strange (Stephen Strange), Ant-Man (Scott Lang), Nick Fury, and Thanos. Most of these characters will be in Infinity War.

In the MCU there have been many directors. Some of the most notable include:  Jon Favreau, Joss Whedon, James Gunn, Anthony Russo, and Joe Russo. These directors will be collaborating to create Infinity War. They will be collaborating so that they stay true to the characters. Also, they want to give each character enough screen time, so they feel the more input they have the better.
