With many holidays quickly coming up, many wonder what the perfect gift would be. Whether it’s for a friend or a family member, here is one quick and easy solution to your gift idea block.
One of my favorite gifts to make, give, and receive this time of year is a Mason jar full of cookie mix! The task is simple: obtain a Mason jar from a craft store and some of your mother’s baking ingredients. Next, fill the Mason jar layer by layer with the specific ingredients in this order: 1 1/3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 cups of Nestle Tollhouse semi-sweet chocolate chips, 3/4 cup of packed brown sugar, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda, and 3/4 teaspoon of salt. Soon, you will have a cute jar of cookie ingredients ready to wrap!
After packing all the ingredients into the jar, write down the measurements of the liquid ingredients (3/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 large egg, and 3/4 cup of softened margarine). After that, be sure to add the temperature needed to bake the cookies. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, mix liquid ingredients and dry ingredients separate. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown. After removing the cookies from the oven, place them on a cooling rack, then enjoy your delicious chocolate chip cookies! This recipe yields about 30 cookies.
The final step is where your creative abilities come into play. You can tie a ribbon around the top of the Mason jar to give a festive look to it, or just decorate the jar with colorful sharpie! Once you have decorated your jar to perfection, the directions card is what you’ll be designing next. It could be as simple as an index card, or just a tag with all the directions given above on it! Any way you choose to personalize your tag will still be in the spirit of the holidays.
The best part about this gift is that it’s hand made, and it doesn’t cost an extreme amount of money. Finish off your Mason jar cookie mix by giving whomever may be receiving this gift a big glass of milk; maybe they’ll share their delicious gift with you! Hopefully this helps you with your gift ideas. Plus, who turns down free cookies?
